This photograph of Fowlers Troop was taken by Thankfull Sturdee and is probably the best known of the surviving photographs, having appeared in several books about Lewisham and Deptford. Lewisham Local History Centre hold a copy. The exact date is not known, but it appears to be from the early 1900s. |

This photograph must also be by Thankfull Sturdee, but is not credited to him in the book in which it appeared, Living London by George R. Sims, published in three volumes, 1901-03. At first glance it looks identical to Fowlers Troop No 1, but there are small differences including the appearance of the man/woman with the parasol who is hidden behind Tiger Tim in Photo No 1. The picture is in volume 3 of Living London, in the chapter London "Days" by John Bloundelle-Barton but there is no reference to Fowlers Troop in the text. |
